‘Business is business’ Ex Florida football assistant takes to social media to discuss move to Miami

Under Harris’s leadership, Florida’s secondary showed marked improvement, increasing interceptions from three to 14 in a season.
Florida is now actively searching for a new secondary coach, with potential candidates including USC’s Doug Belk and Arkansas’s Nick Perry.

Former Florida football secondary coach Will Harris took to the social media platform X to discuss his decision to leave UF for rival Miami.

In the post, Harris thanked Florida Gators coach Billy Napier and Florida athletic director Scott Stricklin but said “business is business.”

Harris made $625,000 as UF’s secondary coach last season. Under his direction, UF’s secondary showed improvement, particularly in forcing takeaways. Florida went from an SEC-low three interceptions in 2023 to 14 interceptions in 2024, which ranked tied for fourth in the SEC. UF’s secondary players accounted for 11 of the 14 picks, led by sophomore safety Bryce Thornton, who had three interceptions on the season.

Harris also thanked the fans and players in the social media post, referencing UF’s ability to finish the season on a four-game win streak after a 4-5 start.

“Love is an understatement,” Harris said. “Nothing can break our bonds. When you’ve stacked bricks together, they could never be knocked down.”

Florida now is in the market for a new secondary coach. Two potential candidates include USC secondary coach Doug Belk and Arkansas secondary coach Nick Perry. Both have ties for Vinnie Sunseri, who was recently hired as UF’s co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach.
