With their original Clayton location thriving, Bunker Fitness is expanding with a new franchise location coming to the former Rite Aid building in downtown Blackwood (Gloucester Township).

This news comes from the Bunker Fitness Facebook page where owner Nick and his new franchise owner Devin a few days ago filmed a video tour of the building, highlighting all of the different areas that the gym will include. (Facebook Reel)

The location for this new gym is at the corner of Black Horse Pike and Church Street taking over a former Rite Aid Pharmacy. Across the street from the upcoming gym is the Holy Tomato restaurant, and the upcoming Gloucester Township Community Arts Center being developed at the corner.

The gym’s corner property offers plenty of parking which it shares with Gloucester Township’s adjacent Veterans Park.  Also recently opened in the area is Ren’s Coffeehouse… plus JoJo’s Steaks and Pizza is under construction, and I’m also hearing some things about Shana’s Wild Fig building getting a new tenant!  

And Bunker Fitness is positioned to be a key piece of the Downtown Blackwood rebirth!

For Bunker Fitness, the plan to take over the location must have been finalized very recently as at the time of the filming the Facebook video a few days ago, the power had not been turned back on again in the building… but the Bunker team was ready planning the design for the space which will feature a full gym and cardio equipment buildout, as well as a smoothie/shake bar.

Honestly 12,000 square feet is a good amount of space for a locally owned gym and it seems the bunker team is excited to get started and have a clear plan for the open space.

Nick gives a full high level rundown of the different types of equipment and the placement within the space.

The gym area will feature black rubber flooring.  The lighting will be replaced with hexagon lighting.

 The new gym will offer a full selection of cardio equipment such as treadmills and stairmasters… and the weight areas will support a mixture of machines and free-weights.

As mentioned there will be a counter area for smoothies and shakes as well as supplements.

The back pharmacy area will be modified to be a workout recovery room with separate areas for men and women.

A rear former storage area will see some modifications including the addition of a turf flooring so that it can be used as a stretching space.

Nick says they have just submitted the permits and in days will be offering pre-opening signup deals.
