The Milwaukee Bucks will attempt to extend their win-streak to four games Sunday afternoon in New York as they take on the Knicks.
Luckily for Milwaukee, the Knicks have dropped four of their last five games. Meanwhile, the Bucks’ front office should be targeting a win-now trade that can boost their championship odds this season, as Giannis Antetokounmpo is still playing MVP-worthy basketball.
In the Western Conference, the Dallas Mavericks have been without superstar Luka Doncic since Christmas due to a calf strain while co-star Kyrie Irving hasn’t been available since New Year’s Day as he nurses a back injury. They could benefit from a trade in an attempt to tread water as their franchise cornerstones recover to full health.
Bucks receive:Â Daniel Gafford, Dante Exum, Markieff Morris
Mavericks receive:Â Bobby Portis, AJ Johnson, MarJon Beauchamp, 2031 first-round pick swap, 2031 second-round pick
Portis would give the shorthanded Mavericks a significant boost to their scoring while Johnson and Beauchamp are unproven former first-round picks. The involved draft capital could entice Dallas’ front office enough to consider this offer, especially as they are without Doncic and Irving. However, the Mavericks could remain patient on the trade market depending on expected return timelines.
Assessing Milwaukee’s haul, Exum is still recovering from October wrist surgery, but a return is anticipated soon. He would solidify the Bucks’ perimeter defense without Khris Middleton at full health. The 29-year old Exum is an upgrade to bench guard Delon Wright’s minutes.
A season ago, in his return to the NBA after a successful stint overseas, the Australian combo guard averaged 7.8 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 2.9 assists in 19.8 minutes. He started in 17 of his 55 appearances and shot an unsustainable 49.1 percent from three on 2.0 attempts per game.
35-year old Morris is only included for financial purposes as he is not an effective NBA player at this point in his career while Gafford would act as their long-desired rim-running complement to 36-year old center Brook Lopez.
The 26-year old Mavericks big man is averaging a career-high 11.4 points, along with 6.0 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 1.4 blocks in 19.9 minutes. Gafford has started in 15 of his 36 appearances as a complement to 20-year old starter Dereck Lively and has 66 dunks entering Sunday, including 25 successful alley-oops.
