Randy Gregory‘s time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers has ended before it ever got going.

Bucs head coach Todd Bowles confirmed Sunday that the team released Gregory after he failed to report to training camp, though the coach said he still has no reason as to why the defensive end has been absent.

“No, I never found out,” Bowles said via team transcript. “I wish him the best. We’ll move on from there. You can’t miss what you never had.”

Bowles’ comments on the matter were short, just like Gregory’s tenure with the Bucs.

The veteran pass rusher signed with the squad in April, but was placed on the reserve/did not report list on July 23.

Gregory sued the NFL and Denver Broncos in June over $500 thousand in fines for THC use he said were therapeutic.

Gregory, 31, was a second-round draft choice of the Dallas Cowboys in 2015 who went on to play for the Broncos and San Francisco 49ers over the past two seasons.
