Bryson DeChambeau wants to set the record straight.
Speaking at a pre-tournament press conference Wednesday ahead of LIV Golf Hong Kong, the third LIV event of 2025, DeChambeau was asked whether recent rumors circulating about top LIV players wanting to return to the PGA Tour were true.
In DeChambeau’s case, he attempted to quiet the rumors surrounding his name.
“I’m very excited about the future of LIV Golf,” DeChambeau said. “I’m very excited to be the captain of the Crushers and continue our legacy that we’re starting to create. That’s my goal is to create this lasting legacy where we impact millions and millions of golfers’ lives around the world.
“That should tell you everything you should know.”
Last week, 1992 Masters champion Fred Couples spoke on a radio show and said Brooks Koepka recently expressed his desire to return to the PGA Tour. Phil Mickelson shot back Tuesday in a now-deleted social media post, calling Couples’ comments “a low-class jerk move.”
The discussions about LIV Golf’s top stars returning to the PGA Tour have only increased in recent weeks as the PGA Tour and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, which backs LIV Golf, continue conversations to unify men’s professional golf. Those conversations have included President Donald Trump, though PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan said Tuesday a deal was not likely to be announced before or during Players Championship week.
In DeChambeau’s case, his popularity stems more from his U.S. Open win at Pinehurst No. 2 last year and his YouTube channel, where he has 1.74 million followers, and less from his play during LIV events. DeChambeau has a couple memorable moments on the LIV Golf League, like shooting 58 at LIV Golf Greenbrier in 2023, but he hasn’t won since the Chicago event that season, and his most notable on-course performances have been at majors, like in 2024 when he was runner-up at the PGA Championship before earning his second U.S. Open title. And let’s not forget his sign-carrying escapades at Augusta National.
DeChambeau is an entertainer, a player the PGA Tour would love to have back because of his rise in popularity. But on Wednesday, he reiterated his commitment to LIV Golf.
He also gave an insight into his prep for the year’s first major championship, which begins in 36 days.
“I’m excited. I’m ready,” DeChambeau said. “I feel like I’m ready at least. I’ve made some switches with the golf ball, and this week we’re trying it out. It’s been pretty solid so far, so we’ll see how that works. But I’m just comfortable. I’m excited is really what it comes down to. However the cards play out, they’ll play out, but I am genuinely excited for this year.”
