He may have had his senior day in both football and baseball, but Bryce Boettcher isn’t done with the Oregon Ducks.
Boettcher announced his return for one more season of college football on Tuesday night. The Ducks had been pursuing a waiver from the NCAA for the linebacker to play a fourth and final year of football, and it appears to have been granted.
While the Eugene product played four seasons of baseball for Oregon and was drafted by the Houston Astros in the 13th round of the 2024 MLB draft, he played only three seasons for the football team, beginning with his sophomore year in 2022.
This season, Boettcher led the Ducks with 94 total tackles to go along with two sacks, four pass breakups, one interception and a forced fumble. He won the Burlsworth Trophy, given to the nation’s most outstanding college football player who began their career as a walk-on.
Boettcher’s emotional leadership should prove crucial for the Ducks as they look ahead to the 2025 football season. His future plans on the baseball diamond have yet to be announced, although reports indicate Boettcher could also join the Astros’ minor league system during this football offseason.
