P.J. Locke reached for a meme this week when he was describing the unique talent of former teammate Jerry Jeudy.
“You ever seen that video of a gazelle, and he changes directions real quick? Everybody started tagging (Jeudy) in it. That’s my image of him,” said Locke, who was teammates with Jeudy for four seasons in Denver. “Not many receivers have that type of twitch.”
The Broncos on Monday night will welcome Jeudy back to Empower Field at Mile High for the first time since trading him to the Cleveland Browns in March in exchange for fifth- and sixth-round picks in last spring’s NFL Draft. He arrives during his best stretch of the season for the Browns, who signed the 2020 first-round pick to a three-year, $52 million extension shortly after completing the trade. Jeudy in his last four games has 24 catches for 379 yards — a robust 15.9 yards per reception — and a touchdown. It is a stretch that has coincided with Jameis Winston taking over at quarterback for the struggling, and then injured, Deshaun Watson.
“He’s different,” Locke said. “He can cut on a dime. He has the speed. A lot of receivers, they kind of pace themselves a little bit (when running routes). He can run full speed and cut on a dime, and it’s super tough to guard. It’s exciting to go against. Everyone here felt what that was like going up against him in practice. It will be fun.”
