Daviess County’s Grant Broughton has signed with Northern Kentucky University to continue his golf and academic career. The senior finished his time with the Panthers’ team earlier this fall, helping lead them to a second-place finish in the region tournament and an eighth-place finish at semi-state. He advanced to the state tournament finals as an individual, tying for 46th overall.

After visiting NKU recently, Broughton said, he could imagine it as his future home.

“Northern Kentucky continued to stay as the one who was interested in me the most,” Broughton said. “I really admired the coach and the team. I loved everything about my visit and it was not a hard decision at all to pick Northern Kentucky.”

Broughton worked with Daviess County head coach Lars King to improve his overall game over the last couple of years. At first, he had to reach out to schools on his own before hearing back, but that started to change over time.

“A lot of the time talking with coach King, swing coaches, and other kids who have gone through the recruitment process, if you get better the interest will come,” Broughton said. “If you play well the interest will come. What makes golf so hard is that there isn’t one particular thing you can do that will make you attractive to a college coach. There was a lot of patience and hard work that went into it.”

Broughton heads to NKU planning to major in prefinance and master in qualitative finance and has massive goals for himself.

“I know it is a big ask, but I hope to be able to play right away. I hope to get a couple of shots better, become smarter in the game, and be able to take the career path I want to – if it isn’t professional golf, it will be the major in the classes I am taking.”
