CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG/Gray News) – A healthy competition between two siblings led them to hit aces at the same golf course.
It all started with Morgan Burhans, who was teeing up a par 3 at the Airport National golf course in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Morgan was playing for Prairie High School in the Mississippi Valley Conference division meet and was 111 yards up the hill on the 11th hole.
Her brother, Luke Burhans filmed as she took her shot.
“I heard them yelling, my family and my teammates, yelling and screaming,” Morgan said. “I was like ‘Did I just get it close to the hole or did it actually go in?’”
Morgan’s hole-in-one and everyone’s celebration was caught on camera.
“It actually went in because it would’ve been pretty embarrassing if I was crying and it was just a tap in,” she said.
Luke, who is a junior on the high school’s golf team, then faced a lot of pressure to get an ace of his own.
“Coaches and stuff – and her coaches too – would tell me she is better than me because she has a hole-in-one,” Luke said. “It was irritating going in, and people telling me she was better than me.”
So last weekend, Luke hit his shot on the par three, 140-yard 9th hole at the Airport National golf course with his buddy filming on the other end.
With some wicked backspin, he got an ace.
“One of my buddies always tells me to club up on that hole so you can land it on the ridge and spin back,” Luke said. “So I hit the 9-iron and had a 140, and hit the top of the hill and spun back.”
Luke said he didn’t see it go in, but heard everyone freaking out.
“So I just went on a sprint like ‘What’s going on?’ and found out the ball was in the hole.”
The siblings are very competitive and now they’re vying to be the one to hit the next hole-in-one.
Morgan says it’s going to be her.
“Not a chance,” said Luke. “First of all, the one you had was thin, and it was a lucky shot, and you don’t golf enough.
“I do golf enough,” Morgan retorted. “And it was a good shot.”
