Iowa football could be down another quarterback for the remainder of its game at UCLA.
Brendan Sullivan, the Hawkeyes‘ new starting quarterback after original starter Cade McNamara suffered a concussion two weeks ago vs. Northwestern, exited the game in the third quarter after taking several big hits.
Here’s the latest:
Sullivan took several hard hits during the first three quarters against the Bruins, but a devastating smash near the sideline appeared to shake him up.
He was evaluated in the medical tent soon after but returned to the field on the following drive, only to take another hit and subsequently remain sidelined. Our Hawkeye columnist Chad Leistikow reported that Sullivan did not have his helmet with him on the sideline early in the third quarter.
Since Sullivan was Iowa’s original backup, the Hawkeyes will now turn to third-stringer Jackson Stratton.
Stratton is Iowa’s new backup after Marco Lainez got injured in practice.
The 6-foot-4 sophomore from Mission Bay, California, previously attended Colorado State, where he only saw game action in 2022, completing 4-of-17 passes for 78 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions.
He didn’t play in 2023 before transferring and joining the Hawkeyes as a walk-on.
