Wisconsin fell to arch-rival Minnesota 24-7 on Friday, dropping to 5-7 to close the 2024 season.
The loss is the Badgers’ fifth consecutive to close the campaign. That streak is the program’s largest since 1991 — Barry Alvarez’s second year as head coach. It also clinches the program’s first losing season since 2001 and snaps its record bowl streak at 22 years.

Any angle or lens will paint the 2024 season in a negative light. It represents another significant step backward for a program that has mostly struggled since the conclusion of the 2019 season. Most importantly, it’s a crashing end to a disastrous second year under head coach Luke Fickell. While he was brought in to return the program to its previous success, the team has only fell further in the wrong direction.
More context surrounding the loss and the end-of-season losing skid: Wisconsin went 0-3 against rivals Iowa, Nebraska and Minnesota over the last month. Those losses were by a combined margin of 110-42 (42-10, 44-25 and 24-7, respectively). Wisconsin is trophy-less for the first time since the Freedom Trophy was added to the fold in 2014.
Notable Badgers fans and program alumni were understandably deflated after the closing loss to Minnesota. Here is some of that reaction, including from recent alumni running back Braelon Allen, safety Eric Burrell and wide receiver Kendric Pryor:

WR Kendric Pryor (2017-21)
K Vitaly Pisetsky (1998-2000)
DL Warren Herring (2011-14)

Wisconsin basketball legend Sam Dekker
LB Vince Biegel (2013-16)
