Bobbie Jo Nelson, 52, Burlington, ND, died Thursday, December 12, 2024 in a Minot hospital.

Bobbie Jo Edkins was born January 26, 1972, a daughter of Robert “Bob” and Earleen (Steinke) Edkins, in Devils Lake, ND. She attended Devils Lake Public Schools until her junior year of high school. Living with her aunt, Bernie, she graduated from Munich High School in 1990.

Bobbie began her lifelong love of working in the food industry, beginning as an eighth grader working at the White House Cafe in Devils Lake. She continued in high school working for her Aunt Bernie at the Munich bowling alley and cafe. Before being unable to work any longer, she was the head cook at the Des Lacs Burlington Elementary School. Everyone agreed she really was the best cook.

Bobbie was once married to Bryce Hauf. Together they had their daughter, Taylor Marie.

Bobbie married her “partner in crime” Teague Nelson in 2002. Together they raised their daughters, Taylor and Breein.

Bobbie loved fishing and being on the water. She was always surrounded by her many dogs, because one dog is not enough! People who knew Bobbie will remember her laugh and her love of telling stories and her sarcastic humor.

She loved her two grandchildren, Autumn and Beauden, most and would have given anything to see them both grow to be adults. It was her reason for fighting.

In 2014, Bobbie received the gift of a double lung transplant. She spent many months in Rochester at Mayo and the transplant house. During the past nearly 11 years, she lived life to the fullest and was grateful for the lung transplant.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She will be missed by all that knew her.

Bobbie is survived by: Husband, Teague; Children: Taylor (Zach) and Breein (Josh); grandchildren: Autumn and Beauden; Parents: Robert and Earleen Edkins; Sister: Fay (Terry) Froseth; father and mother-in-law: Elmer (Carol) Nelson; brother-in-law Ryan Nelson; sister-in-law Jen (Brian) Manson; and her dogs: Bruiser, Taz, Zeus, Tula, Bucho and Tator. Several nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles also survive.

A celebration of life is planned for May 2, 2025, at 11 a.m., at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Kenmare, ND, with burial to follow at the Lakeview Cemetery, Kenmare, ND.
