ALPHARETTA, Ga. – The Duke men’s golf team turned in a 6-under, 282, on Saturday at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate and remains steady in third place. The Blue Devils’ effort was led by Ethan Evans, who carded his second-straight round in the 60s with a 3-under, 69, in the second round.
HOW IT HAPPENED: ROUND TWO
- As a team, Duke shot a 6-under, 282, in the second round to remain in third place heading into the final day on Sunday.
- Evans turned in the low round of the day, carding a 3-under, 69, and sits second in the individual standings with an 8-under, 136. He started the day with a bogey on No. 2, but the junior recovered with his first birdie of the day, two holes later, on No. 4. Two additional birdies, on holes No. 7 and 9, pushed Evans to 2-under at the turn. Evans kept the birdie streak rolling on the par-5 11th, his third in a five-hole stretch, before playing steady golf with four pars over the next four holes. After a dropped shot on No. 16, he bounced back with a birdie on No. 18 to finish the day 3-under for the round.
- Bryan Kim carded a 2-under, 70, on the second day of action. Kim rolled in a birdie on No. 2 to start his morning, but dropped back to even-par on the next hole with a bogey. Kim then played the remainder of the front-nine at 3-under, pouring in birdies on No. 5, No. 8 and No. 9. Three straight pars to start the back-nine was halted with a bogey on No. 13, but the sophomore bounced right back, immediately erasing the blemish with a birdie on the 432-yard, par-4, 14th.
- William Love finished at 2-under, 70, in the second round. The junior played the front-nine at 1-over, after rolling in a birdie on the par-5 first, but stumbling with bogeys on holes No. 3 and 7. Love bounced back though, starting the back-nine with back-to-back birdies on No. 10 and 11 to get back into red figures.
- Kelly Chinn carded a 1-over, 73, on Saturday. The senior worked through a 3-over front-nine, before turning it on after making the turn. Three birdies, with just one dropped shot, highlighted a 2-under effort on the back-nine. Chinn rolled in birdies on holes No. 10, 15 and 18 to help bounce back from his opening nine holes at over-par.
- Luke Sample played his first nine holes at 1-over, with a lone bogey alongside eight pars on the front-nine. A birdie on No. 12 pushed Sample back to even-par, but back-to-back bogeys moved the senior back over-par for the round. A third and final bogey of the back-nine came on No. 16 to finish out his second round with a 74.
