Ella Rawson entered her sophomore season with an undefeated record. She finished it that way, too, after winning the Class 4A state championship.
“I don’t think there was any pressure from anyone else,” Rawson said. “But I think maybe self-inflicted pressure where I kind of was, like, ‘OK, I went undefeated last year, so I kind of want to do the same this year.'”
The reigning 4A state champ, Rawson shot a 74 on her first day of the state tournament to enter the final round in second place before chipping away to take back the lead and win the event. Her birdie the 17th hole Tuesday was key.
Head coach Carly Farthing has seen growth from Rawson since the start of her freshman year.
“It was even cooler this year,” Farthing said. “She had some actual real tough competition this year, and it was a different side of her winning because she had to come back and fight for it. I haven’t seen her do that yet, and she had to keep her nerves down and use them to feel her. And it was like a different competitive side of her that I saw and it was just cool to be a part of.”
Bishop Manogue claimed back-to-back state titles as a team, shooting 632 over the two days of play at Genoa Lake Golf Club. The Miners bested second-place Douglas by 74 strokes. The Miners will return their entire roster for the 2025 season.
“I would be proud of them if they went out there and shot every single one of them shot over 100 (strokes),” Farthing said. “That’s how incredible these girls are there. They’re just so kind. Their tenacity and their dedication to this game and their willingness to roll with the punches that I throw at them, it’s just a special combination that we have right now, and I know that this is a really unique time that not many coaches get.”
