Fernandez 2-6 4-6 Boulter
GB’s Katie Boulter speaking after beating Canada’s Leylah Fernandez: “I was doubting myself the whole time! No, I’m really happy with my level today. Emma [Raducanu] makes it really easy to come out here and have a swing and 1-0 up so full credit to her for starting us off well. Really proud of my performance today, I just wanted to come out here and really go at the defending champs and hopefully get a win. Really pleased with myself.
On her performance: “Actually in the team room last night, Emma told me to slow down a little bit so she could get out here and watch. I slowed it down a little bit for her. This is pretty much because of her. I feel like I’m being a team player right now, she got an extra couple of games to get out here and watch so that’s nice for her.
On her levels: “I feel like I have been here for quite a while now. We were playing a lot of matches just to get through. I feel like we have been building for some time now and it is finally coming out. We have got a great team, all of the girls are great people. We’ve got a great chemistry going on. So proud of everyone here.”
