‘The Sports Guy’ might have another NBA and/or sports media bombshell up his sleeve.

Bill Simmons, who’s been ahead of the curve on plenty of NBA media rights scoops, dropped another intriguing nugget on his podcast recently. This time, it’s not about TV deals but a potential shake-up in the Philadelphia 76ers’ front office.

According to Simmons, there’s legitimate “buzz” that Bob Myers, currently an NBA analyst for ESPN, could be returning to a front office role. Simmons speculated that Myers could join the Philadelphia 76ers’ front office and replace Daryl Morey, who he later labeled as a “fall guy,” as the team’s top decision-maker in the process.

This isn’t the first time Myers has seen his name thrown out there.

His colleague at ESPN, Stephen A. Smith, previously stumped for him to join the Los Angeles Lakers in the same capacity. While Simmons isn’t doing a similar level of stumping, there’s “buzz” there not only because Myers is widely recognized as the architect of the Golden State Warriors dynasty but also due to his ties with Philadelphia’s ownership group.

“You know, Bob Myers helped Washington with the football team, right? He was on that advisory committee,” Simmons said. “I just feel like he’s looming with the Sixers thing — and I don’t think I’m alone. There’s been some Bob Myers-Philly buzz that I think has been building because I think he had a good experience with Josh Harris.”

Simmons is referring to the fact that Myers has already played a behind-the-scenes role with 76ers and Washington Commanders owner Josh Harris, assisting in the latter’s search for both a new head coach and head of football operations last offseason.

An effort that’s paid dividends for Washington, who is currently on the cusp of its first Super Bowl appearance in decades. Myers won’t be well thought of in the City of Brotherly Love if Washington knocks off the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship Game this weekend. But those fans will quickly get over themselves if he’s indeed tasked with turning around a franchise that’s lost its way.

“I think Bob Myers is lurking, in general,” Simmons added. “If there is a fall guy… it’s gonna be Nick Nurse and Daryl Morey… One thing that Bob Myers does? Builds the culture. That’s what he was famous with the Warriors, and you bring him into Philly. If it gets really bad, I just wouldn’t be surprised.”

With the 76ers spiraling under Morey’s leadership, the need for a fresh perspective feels inevitable. Myers’ championship pedigree and knack for building winners might be exactly what this franchise needs to claw its way back to relevance.

But there’s also his relationship with Harris, which is why Simmons wouldn’t be surprised.

If the palpable “buzz” Simmons is hearing is right, he just might have nailed the next big NBA move before it happens — again.
