In one of the strangest career twists in a future Hall of Fame career, longtime New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick found himself without a coaching job after the 2023 NFL season for the first time since the 1970s. Though Belichick interviewed twice with the Atlanta Falcons, the team opted to hire former Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris as their head coach instead.

Belichick found himself on the outside looking in at the NFL coaching carousel. However, he began to make appearances at colleges like Nebraska with Matt Rhule, who gushed over Belichick’s football mind. The former Patriots head coach was also spotted at the University of Washington where his son, Steve, is the defensive coordinator.
Rumors began to swirl about Belichick potentially being hired as a consultant at the collegiate level. Instead, Belichick carved out a role for himself as a television analyst. He will be a member of both the “Manningcast” and “Inside the NFL.”
Despite potentially remaining on TV, a longtime NFL insider has revealed when the football world can expect to see Belichick back on the sidelines.
Longtime NFL insider Tom Pelissero joined “The Rich Eisen Show,” where he pulled questions from fans out of a helmet, and answered them to the best of his abilities. One such question posed to Pelissero stated, “When does Bill Belichick coach again, and with whom?”
“That is a fantastic question. I’ll say this, Bill Belichick intends to coach in 2025. He’s staying engaged in the game. He’s showing up to roasts. He’s now going to be on ‘Inside the NFL.’ We see him showing up to different events in high school, at the main passing academy … he’ll be out, he’ll be trying to better himself to remind you that he’s not Darth Vader,” Pelissero states.
Belichick could benefit from taking a year off from the NFL. He can now “better himself,” as Pelissero said. The longtime coach might have soured his relationship with Patriots owner Robert Kraft, but he is still widely regarded as a football genius.
“He’s fully invested in he wants to coach again. He wants to pursue the all-time wins record. Those are things that really matter a lot to Bill Belichick,” Pelissero added.
Belichick currently has 333 wins in the NFL. The leader is legendary Miami Dolphins head coach Don Shula, who has 347. Belichick is only 14 wins away, and he could presumably get that many in one season — difficult for most teams in the league — or two.
The question would then be where Belichick could go in 2025. So far, New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh has not been successful in turning the team around; he has an 18-33 record with no playoff appearances in three seasons. Another opportunity could come with the New York Giants, as Brian Daboll also has a poor record in the regular season (15-18-1) and in the playoffs (1-1).
Another opportunity could come with the New Orleans Saints, as Dennis Allen currently holds a 16-18 record with no playoff appearances over the last two years. Belichick would presumably have many options in 2025. Time will tell if any NFL team wants to give him a chance.
