PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Marshall junior golfer Ryan Bilby carded a 2-under 69 in the final round of the RedHawk Intercollegiate to finish tied for 9th at Pittsburgh Field Club on Tuesday.
For Bilby, it was his second consecutive 69 and his third consecutive tournament finishing in the top-10 for the Thundering Herd.
“It was a really good, challenging week for us,” Marshall Men’s Golf coach Matt Grobe said. “Ryan played excellent to get his third top-10 in a row.”
Bilby had a flurry to end his round, birdieing three of his final four holes to end the tournament in strong fashion at 3-under for the 54 holes of action.
In addition to Bilby’s strong effort, Marshall senior J.F. Aber had one of the top rounds of the day in the tournament, firing a 3-under 68 that vaulted him to a top-25 finish as well.
Aber finished Tuesday with seven birdies, including three in his last five holes of action to end the tournament at 2-over – good for a tie for 24th.
“J.F. had a good week after getting off to a slow start,” Grobe said. “We faced some really tough conditions with lots of wind, rain and even hail. I was proud of the way our guys fought.”
As a team, Marshall finished tied for 7th in the 16-team event. Marquette won the team title at 16-under.
Marshall returns to action for its final tournament of the fall next week with the Flyer Invitational, hosted by Dayton.
