Bergen County veterans and active-duty service members can golf for free at any of the county’s six golf courses from Nov. 11 to 15 in honor of Veterans Day.
“Providing a free round of golf is a small gesture of our gratitude for their sacrifices and service to protect our freedoms. We hope this opportunity offers a moment of relaxation and enjoyment to those who have given so much to our nation. Honoring our veterans and service members is one of the most important commitments we can make,” said County Executive Jim Tedesco.
“You have our unwavering respect and appreciation,” Tedesco said about veterans of behalf of the county’s Board of Commissioners, Parks Department and Division of Veterans Services.
The free golf is offered annually and generally gets “a nice response,” said Derek Sands, of the county executive’s office. He said this year is the first time the event organizers are encouraging vets to call ahead to make an early-access registration to give more people the opportunity to take advantage of a free round.
“Freedom comes at a cost, paid for by the sacrifices of the courageous men and women who serve in our armed forces,” said Bergen County Commissioner Steven Tanelli. “As a small expression of gratitude, Bergen County is proud to offer free golf to all veterans and service members this week. This gesture serves as a reminder of the unity and support that strengthen our communities.”
To participate, veterans and active-duty service members must be residents of Bergen County. They can reserve a tee time for up to four golfers, but those included in the reservation who are not active-duty or veterans must pay full price.
To guarantee a tee time, participants should make a reservation by calling the county in advance at 201-336-2759 from Oct. 28 through Nov. 1, between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Reservation availability may be limited after Nov. 1. When making an early-access reservation, Bergen County veterans and active-duty military members will be asked for their name, town, date of birth, military branch and years of service, email address and phone number, and the number of golfers (four is the maximum).
Bergen County has six golf courses: Darlington in Mahwah, Orchard Hills in Paramus, Overpeck in Teaneck, Rockleigh, Soldier Hill in Emerson, and Valley Brook in River Vale.
