Display manufacturer BenQ is launching its new AH500ST projector that the company says is specifically designed for golf simulation installations in small spaces like garages, basements and other small rooms.

The company, based in Taiwan with U.S. offices in Costa Mesa, Calif., says the 4000-lumen 1080p AH500ST features the same intelligent technology as the larger AH700ST to automate the install and setup process, including optimizing the image with a single button.

BenQ Shrinks AH700ST to More Economic AH500ST

Essentially, the $1,899 MSRP BenQ AH500ST is the smaller version of the AH700ST for compact golf similar spaces, allowing users to set up the playing area closer to the screen without worrying about shadows or wall spaces thanks to the TR0.5 short-throw lens.

According to BenQ, the AH500ST’s short-throw ratio will fill an 8-foot by 10-foot impact screen from just 7 feet away, significantly reducing the required room depth compared to traditional projectors, and is ideal for golf simulators using floor mounts.

The company says the projector has an advanced screen fill feature that reformats the picture to 1:1, 4:3, 16:9, or 16:10 aspect ratio screens used in golf simulators. When the type of screen is selected, the projector will recalculate the resolution and communicate that information to the PC for a representative image.

Additionally, a built-in autofocus function uses a built-in camera to ensure a sharp image, and BenQ’s Golf Mode brings the colors of the course to life, the company says.

Golf Simulators Are Being Installed Increasingly in Multi-Use Spaces

BenQ conducted a survey recently that found over 50% of golf simulator users want to set up golf simulator projectors in smaller, multipurpose spaces. This feedback underscored the need for a powerful, short-throw projector capable of delivering vibrant visuals without requiring a large setup area. The AH500ST was developed in response.

The projector features two HDMI ports and a LAN port, and also supports optional wireless connectivity, ensuring integration with various launch monitor setups and allowing users to connect to multiple devices. BenQ also added a 10W speaker so users can immerse themselves in the game with ambient sound effects.

BenQ’s new golf similar projector is rated for temperatures from 32°F to 104°F and features a dust-proof, IP5X-sealed engine. The laser light source ensures up to 20,000 hours of operation, and comes with a three-year warranty, the company says.
