After jumping out of the gate to a 4-2 record as they headed into their bye week, the Chicago Bears have seen their playoff chances get destroyed during their three-game losing streak. Following their loss to the New England Patriots, the Bears fell to 4-5 on the season and with the current NFC standings, they sit at 10th place in the conference, with the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers ahead of them competing for a wild card spot.
With eight games remaining on the season, the Bears will face all of their NFC North divisional opponents twice, as well as the Seahawks and 49ers to finish out the year. Those divisional games will not only paint a picture of where the Bears are in comparison to the other teams in their division, but it could change playoff opportunities for every team.
The three straight losses have all but made any chance of a playoff berth for Chicago impossible, and they currently have less than a one percent change of making it. Entering Monday Night Football of Week 10, the Bears have a 0.77% chance of making the postseason, this according to the Pro Football Network Playoff Predictor.
Given the slim to none chances that are currently set there for Chicago, there will be increased calls for changes on the coaching staff, particularly with head coach Matt Eberflus and offensive coordinator Shane Waldron. On Monday, Eberflus eluded to potential changes coming, but would not reveal them during his Monday media session.
No matter what changes are potentially made, the Bears will have to defy major odds if they want to give themselves a chance of a playoff berth. At this point, there’s always going to be next year to hope the Bears return to the playoffs.
