The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is thinking of adding a batting coach to the team’s coaching staff. While no announcement has been made, the discussion between the BCCI and the team management suggested a need to strengthen the coaching staff.
According to Cricbuzz, a few names are being considered by the cricket board, but the decision is still pending.
Gautam Gambhir (head coach), Abhishek Nayar (assistant coach), Ryan Ten Doeschate (assistant coach), Morne Morkel (bowling coach), and T Dilip (fielding coach) are part of the coaching panel.
With India failing in Australia, the role of the coaching staff has come under the scanner, with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma unable to resolve their technical flaws.
The review meeting was held in Mumbai, and the top brass of the BCCI received a suggestion to try out different things. Rohit and Kohli were the most disappointing with the bat, and this could be one of the reasons why there is a need for a batting coach in the team.
India will play the next Test series against England in June, and the apex body wants to resolve the issues. The sub-continent team also failed to qualify for the final of the World Test Championship after losing back-to-back Test series against New Zealand and Australia.
