BOYS BKB: HALE 53, WHITTEMORE-PRESCOTT 41
When in doubt, Hale can always get the ball to Sam Patten.
The senior playmaker always knows what to do with it.
Patten pumped in 33 points – his third consecutive 30-point performance – to power Hale to a 53-41 victory over Whittemore-Prescott in a North Star League crossover game.
“We didn’t quite play the way we wanted, but we got the result we were after,” Hale coach Andy Katterman said. “Our team is playing well and we’re peaking at a good time.”
Patten, who is averaging 22.3 points per contest, hit five 3-pointers and connected on 6 of 7 from the free-throw in his latest big game. He also added six rebounds as the Eagles (7-11) won for the fourth time in five games.
“Sam had another great game. He’s been fun to watch,” Katterman said.
Keigan Egresics came through with a 10-point, 12-rebound double-double for Hale while Jacob Shick pulled down nine boards. Whittemore-Prescott was led by William LaFranca with 13 points while Hunter Clayton scored 12 and Blaine Zuchnik 10.
BOYS BKB: AU GRES 55, CASEVILLE 46
Au Gres made the journey around Saginaw Bay, coming out on the other side to outduel Caseville 55-46 in a non-league matchup.
“We played with heart and determination,” Au Gres coach Chase Blackmore said. “We faced challenges and found ways to rise above. This is great motivation for the next one.”
Au Gres (9-9) led 33-26 through three quarters then closed out the win with a strong final stanza. Tyler Zaherniak pumped in 23 points in the win while Carson Ososki tallied 13 and Brennan Smolen 10.
Caseville was paced by Cameron Smith with 18 points and Jacob Geilhart with 14.

All Saints (8-13) was led by Arnell Somlar with 18 points and Kwamarion Mathews with 11 while Jack Wetters pulled down 17 rebounds. The Cougars saw their four-game winning streak come to an end.
BOYS BKB: AKRON-FAIRGROVE 64, CPS 57
Akron-Fairgrove is starting to play like a different team.
After enduring an 11-game losing streak, the Vikings have now won four of their past seven games while playing with a new flair. Less than a month after losing to Carsonville-Port Sanilac, the Vikings turned the tables for a 64-57 victory in their Big Thumb Conference Red rematch.
“Earlier in the year, I said we were young and needed to learn to close out games,” A-F coach Jason Lemon said. “Over the past few weeks, we’ve grown as a team, closed out some games and played with great energy. All the hard work they’ve put in is finally paying dividends.”
Akron-Fairgrove (5-14, 2-3) trailed 30-24 at the half but got a defensive spark from senior Jeff Diehl to turn the tide. Ashtyn Spencer ignited the offense with 24 points and Diehl added 12 in the comeback.
Blaine Abbott scored 18 and Justin Johnson 16 for CPS.
