GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) – Many golf courses are beginning to open early this year due to the mild winter.
This includes Battlement Mesa Golf Club. Usually, the course would open in March, but this year they will open a few weeks earlier. The course says one of the contributing factors is that they don’t aerate their greens in the fall.
Xan Anderson, one of the club’s assistants, said they’d opened in January previously. They expect a good season, with many residents excited to get out on the course.
“You always have those people that are just itching to get out. I mean, we’ve had our phone ring off the hook the past two weeks. Guys trying to get out, gals trying to get out and play golf. So, they should expect pretty good conditions here, and then even greater conditions in the summer,” said Anderson.
Weather permitting, the course plans to open on February 17.
