It’s Day 4 at the ATP 250 in Umag with three Italians on the cards. Will Fabio Fognini continue his quest to secure a second title here? Which of the “Lorenzos” will progress? We predict all of the day’s matches, split between this and a separate article.
Head–to–Head: First Meeting
While Marco Trungelliti has maintained a perfect record in first-round matches this year, he is up against an Italian in equally great form and playing on his preferred surface. However, Umag is where the Argentine has gone farthest on the main tour with a semifinal showing six years ago, while the Italian lost in the second round of his debut here. Trungelliti is already familiar here, having gone through the qualifiers, while Musetti is playing his first match on clay since the first day of June. Expect the underdog to cause an upset.
Prediction: Trungelliti in 3
Head–to–Head: First Meeting
Fabio Fognini’s recent performances suggest he may extend his career on the main tour, having re-entered the Top 100. The Italian is familiar with these surroundings, having won the title here in 2016. However, Chun-Hsin Tseng has proved his mettle on clay, and this match will depend on the Italian’s disposition as he is the more experienced player.
Fognini will look to add a second title here as he considers retiring from the sport. If his composed win over the much younger Luca Van Assche in the previous round is anything to go by, he should advance comfortably.
Prediction: Fognini in 3

Head–to–Head: First Meeting
Luciano Darderi returned from a break-down in the second set to clinch a straight-set win over Duje Ajdukovic in front of the home fans. He’ll be oozing confidence against teenager Mensik, who’s just clinched three wins from his last ten matches. The Czech youngster can be dangerous, but Darderi is more solid on clay.
Prediction: Darderi in 3
