The ATP Stockholm Open , Sweden, has reached its final stage, and the lineup is fascinating. Two former champions, Grigor Dimitrov and Tommy Paul, will face each other to win the title for the second time. This has all the makings of a remarkable match. But which player will come out on top and lift the title?
Head-to-Head: Dimitrov 1-1 Paul
Dimitrov had to dig deep and weather the storm from Tallon Griekspoor in the semifinals. Griekspoor was close to unplayable in the first set and gave Dimitrov no chance to settle into the match. But Dimitrov used his experience and made an inspiring start to the second set, and from there on, he looked in control. The Bulgarian is having a great year and it all started with a title in Brisbane at the start of the year. This is Dimitrov’s fourth final at the Stockholm Open and he will look to end the two-match losing streak in finals here.
Paul put an end to Stan Wawrinka’s inspiring run to reach his second final in Stockholm. Paul returned brilliantly and made Wawrinka move from side to side. Paul has become incredibly consistent and with his incredible movement and solid backhand, he is one of the toughest players to beat on the ATP Tour. The American is having the best year of his career and will look to win his third title of the season.
This is a big final for both of these players as they are still in the mix for qualifying at the Nitto ATP Finals. This is the fourth tour-level final of the year for both of them as well. There are many similarities between these two when it comes to being quick on the feet and defending brilliantly from the corners. Both play with variety and like to come to the net at any given opportunity. Dimitrov has a better serve and forehand while Paul has a more reliable backhand and has more variation on his second serve. Dimitrov played an exhausting match in the semifinals and Paul will be the fresher player.
Prediction: Paul in 3
