Day 7 at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Shanghai will feature 12 matches, assuming the weather allows it. The rain has caused massive delays already and everyone will be hoping for some nice weather so the tournament can be completed in due time. If all goes well, Day 7 will see the conclusion of the third round of the tournament.
Head-to-head: Giron 2-0 Goffin
While Goffin’s best days seem to be definitely behind him, he is still occasionally capable of good performance and great wins, like the one over Musetti in the previous round here. That win will surely have greatly motivated him ahead of this clash with Giron, which presents a great opportunity to go even further in the draw. While Giron is a solid player, if Goffin plays up to his potential he is definitely a level above and should be able to prevail.
Prediction: Goffin in 3
Head-to-head: Mensik 2-0 Shevchenko
Shevchenko might still be the higher ranked player of the two, but that is unlikely to last much longer. Mensik is one of the most talented young players on the tour and keeps steadily rising. He scored an amazing win over last year’s finalist Andrey Rublev in the previous round and seems poised to make a run here and continue to rise up the rankings.
Prediction: Mensik in 2

Head-to-head: first meeting
Tiafoe had an amazing U.S. hard court season, but his level tends to be far higher on U.S. soil than anywhere else in the world. That’s why, despite the big difference in ranking, this is almost a 50/50 match. Safiullin has been playing well so far in Asia, where he had already done quite well last year, and has a very good chance to continue his run here.
Prediction: Safiullin in 3
Head-to-head: first meeting
Cobolli had a very controversial match (due to Bernardes’s huge blunder) against Wawrinka to get to this stage, but Djokovic will be a huge step up. Even if the Serb has hardly been convincing after his gold medal in Paris, he’s the most successful player in the history of this tournament and always very tough to beat in these conditions.
Prediction: Djokovic in 2
