The first ATP 500 of 2025 is being played this week in Rotterdam, with a very strong field headed by Carlos Alcaraz and featuring lots of top players and indoor specialists. This is always one of the most competitive and highest quality 500 events of the calendar and this year should be no exception to that, with this day featuring plenty of tasty matchups.
Head-to-head: Popyrin 1-0 Lehecka
Popyrin has been struggling a lot ever since his amazing 2024 summer hardcourt season (where he won the Canada Masters and beat Novak Djokovic at the US Open), while Lehecka looks primed for a big 2025 season after injury derailed his 2024. Give their current form, Lehecka should have quite the clear edge here and make it through to the second round.
Prediction: Lehecka in 2
Head-to-head: Bublik 1-0 Mensik
Bublik is highly inconsistent and despite the fact that he has been playing very badly lately he can catch fire and play a good match or tournament at any time, but in any case Mensik is one of the most promising young players in the world and at this point should be able to win this kind of match more often that not, even if it is unlikely to be an easy one.
Prediction: Mensik in 3

Head-to-head: Martinez 3-0 Bautista-Agut
Bautista Agut is very far from his best days, but on an indoor hard court he should still have the edge in this matchup and get his first victory of 2025. Although Martinez leads the head-to-head 3-0, all of those previous matches were played on clay. On an indoor hardcourt, it should be a very different story this time around.
Prediction: Bautista Agut in 2
Head-to-head: Alcaraz 2-1 Van de Zandschulp
Easily the most anticipated match of the day. Van de Zandschulp produced arguably the biggest upset of 2024 when he beat Alcaraz at the US Open in straight sets and the Spaniard will be looking to get his revenge here. While Botic can be extremely dangerous when playing at his best and Alcaraz doesn’t exactly thrive in these indoor conditions, lightning is unlikely to strike twice.
Prediction: Alcaraz in 3
