This led to the Serbian team being criticized following their actions after the final match of the tie.

There was plenty more controversy during the first qualifier round, leading to Djokovic being mentioned after Belgium beat Chile in their Davis Cup tie that ended in a collision between two players.

ATP remove tournament where Novak Djokovic won his first hard court title

Djokovic won his 99th title at the Olympics last year, with his trophy haul beginning 19 years ago back in 2006.

The Serbian won his first ATP title on the Dutch clay of Amersfoort in 2006, and less than three months later followed that up with his maiden hard court title.

Djokovic beat Jurgen Melzer in the Moselle Open final in Metz to win his first of what is now 71 hard court titles.

The Moselle Open held its inaugural edition in 2003, but is now set to be removed after the 2026 calendar was announced.

Last year Benjamin Bonzi beat Brit Cameron Norrie in the Metz final, with some of the other more recent winners including Ugo Humbert, Lorenzo Sonego and Hubert Hurkacz.

Following this announcement, the Metz tournament released a statement expressing their disappointment at the news.

“The ATP Tour has just announced the 2026 calendar which includes a total of 60 tournaments in 31 countries,” the statement read.

“The MOSELLE OPEN will not be present in this 2026 calendar. The SAS Open de Moselle and its Management Committee receive this decision with sadness and injustice after 22 years of existence.”

Other notable changes to the 2026 ATP Calendar

Although the Moselle Open is the only tournament to have been removed in the ATP’s 2026 calendar announcement, there have been some other notable changes:

• The Estoril Open returns to the ATP Tour in 2026 after a one year hiatus and will now be two weeks after Wimbledon.
• The Open 13 in Marseille will move from February to October.
• The Stockholm Open will move from October to November.

Upon the announcement of these changes, ATP Chairman Andrea Gaudenzi said, “The 2026 calendar is a reflection of everything we’ve been working on through OneVision—making the fan experience better, growing our tournaments, and giving players more value.

“With premium events in some of the most iconic cities, we’re showcasing what makes our sport so special. Last season, we saw record-breaking attendance, and we’re excited to keep that momentum going into next year.”

The 2026 ATP season will get underway at the mixed team event, the United Cup, in Perth and Sydney from January 2.
