With this being the last regular ATP week of the season, the race to Turin is by far the most important thing going on, but even aside from that these tournaments provide an excellent opportunity for lower ranked players to get a rare deep run or even a title. As should be expected, Metz is full of French players, including the soon-retiring Richard Gasquet, who will make his debut tomorrow.
Head-to-head: first meeting
Diaz Acosta has been unsurprisingly having a really hard time on hard courts, barely managing to get any wins at all and coming into this tournament on the back of five consecutive losses. Sonego has been struggling himself ever since he won the title in Winston Salem, but on a hard court he should have a very clear edge in this match and advance with relative ease.
Prediction: Sonego in 2
Head-to-head: first meeting
While Martinez is the much higher ranked player overall, a quick hard court in France really evens up the playing field here. These conditions really suit Herbert’s game and he will be very motivated to try and start a run here. On clay, Martinez would be a very clear favorite, but here in Metz it will likely be a very close match decided by a few key points.
Prediction: Herbert in 3
Head-to-head: first meeting
Gasquet has announced that he will be retiring at Roland Garros 2025 and he certainly wants to have one last big run or even a title on home soil before heading off into the sunset. This tournaments seems about as good an opportunity as any to do that and on paper he has a very nice first round draw to get a run going.
Prediction: Gasquet in 3
