The Swiss Open ATP Gstaad final on clay features qualifier Quentin Halys from France against Italy Matteo Berrettini, who will lift the trophy?
19-7 on the year, Berrettini is well on his way to reclaiming his deserved place in the ATP top 30, the big serving Italian is into his fourth tournament final of 2024, a year where he has returned from injury and needed to use a protected ranking at times. He already won Marrakech on clay, and reached the Stuttgart final at ATP level, he has yet to drop a set this week, and that included consecutive wins against quality opposition. Felix Auger-Aliassime the #3 seed, and Stefanos Tsitsipas the #1 seed are the matches he won consecutively with three tiebreaks in four sets of tennis, the margins were slim but it was enough to reach the final.
Halys, a qualifier, has never ranked inside the top 60, his path to the final included a win over the graceful veteran Richard Gasquet, he beat another qualifier in the quarterfinals and #5 seed J.L. Struff in the semis. The tournament began with him dropping the opening set in qualifying and he almost lost that match in straights but he’s bounced back well to reach a maiden ATP final. Halys would love to win this, but realistically he has had the easier path to the final and Berrettini’s level is too high. Berrettini in 2
