Day 2 at the ATP 500 event in Dubai will be packed with action, with several top players taking to the court, including the 2023 champion, Daniil Medvedev. It is a day sure to feature many high quality matches decided by slim margins, even if, on paper, the draw isn’t quite as stacked as last week’s in Doha.
Head-to-head: Fils 2-1 Borges
While Fils definitely is the more talented player of the two, he hasn’t quite found his consistency yet and is prone to upsets; that said, he beat Borges in the two occasions where they faced last year, both in straight sets. While Borges has made some good strides recently, if Fils plays close to his best tennis he should be able to overpower him and advance.
Prediction: Fils in 3
Head-to-head: Griekspoor 1-0 Safiullin
Griekspoor has become a solid ATP level player, while Safiulin hasn’t been able to find a consistently high level yet. That said, Safiulin definitely has the ability to make this a very close match if he is having a good day and this should be quite an even contests, as was their previous encounter at the 2024 Australian Open, which Griekspoor won from 0-2 down in sets. This could well go down to the wire.
Prediction: Griekspoor in 3

Head-to-head: Medvedev 8-2 Struff
Medvedev has been struggling for a while now and he absolutely needs a big run to regain his confidence and become a contender for the biggest titles again. Dubai is a good an opportunity as any and he starts off against an opponent that he has always dominated and whom he defeated with relative ease a couple of weeks ago in Marseille. He should be able to advance here and perhaps start a strong run.
Prediction: Medvedev in 2
