The 2024 edition of the ATP Chengdu Open is heating up quite nicely. Round of 16 action is set to conclude on Day 4 and we will have our quarterfinal lineup set. As ever, we at LWOT preview and predict all four scheduled Round of 16 matches for you.
Head to head – First Meeting
This should be a pretty exciting battle between the experienced Roman Safiullin and the 19 year old Juncheng Shang. Safiullin needed three sets to get the better of Fabio Fognini in the first round and he would definitely need to step up his game if he’s to get the better of Shang. The Chinese looked mighty impressive in his win over Kei Nishikori and with the home support with him, expect Shang to win this in three sets.
Prediction: Shang in 3
Head to head – First Meeting
Yi Zhou had a reprieve in his first round encounter as his opponent was forced to retire early on in the third set. He now faces a veteran of the game in Adrian Mannarino who is still pretty formidable when it comes to slightly quicker hard courts. Expect the Frenchman to dominate the young Chinese with his variety and guile pulling him into all corners of the court.
Prediction: Mannarino in 2

Head to head – First Meeting
Federico Agustin Gomez has done pretty well this. The Argentine notched up his first ever ATP main Tour win and he looks to be in decent nick. Unfortunately for him, he takes on the second seed Alexander Bublik, who has had a decent 2024 to his name. There looks to be a difference in quality of ground strokes and variety to unsettle the opponent. Expect Bublik to start strong this week with his serve yielding him many free points.
Prediction: Bublik in 2

Head to head – First Meeting
Lorenzo Musetti will look to put behind the disappointment of a third round exit at the recently concluded US Open. The Italian is seeded first this week and does possess an outside chance to make it to the ATP Finals. A good week here will boost his chances and that should motivate Musetti this week. Christopher O’Connell did well in his first round match but Musetti should prove too strong to beat in the first round.
Prediction: Musetti in 2
