CINCINNATI (WXIX) – A suspect is under arrest in the double shooting at a pee wee football game at Walnut Hills High School, court records show.
Cincinnati police arrested Lamont Ragan, 29, late Monday on two counts of felonious assault and a single count of discharging a firearm on or near prohibited premises.
He was booked into the Hamilton County Justice Center just before midnight and held overnight without bond, jail records show.
Ragan is scheduled to make his first court appearance in the case at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
Newly filed court records show witnesses told police Ragan shot two adult victims after a fight broke out during the game, according to his criminal complaint filed in Hamilton County Municipal Court.
The victims are a coach and a parent, Milan Lanier with the Cincinnati United Youth Football & Cheer League told FOX19 NOW on Monday.
The game before the shooting was between the Evanston Bulldogs and the West End Elite Royals, with players aged 11 and 12.
Cincinnati Police Lt. Chantia Miller said there was a confrontation around 7:30 p.m. Sunday and shots were fired.
Several children witnessed the shooting, she said, stressing not to condemn the league.
The shooting victims were taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, she said.
One was in serious condition Sunday night and the second victim’s injuries weren’t considered life-threatening, according to Lt. Miller.
The league released a statement Monday saying the incident “does not reflect the values and practices of our partner organizations.
“We were deeply (saddened) with the choices made on this day. We’re actively collaborating with community stakeholders to provide an opportunity for our children to work through what they experienced,” the statement reads.
“We’re also evaluating our current policies in (an effort) to prevent future incidents of such a nature. This tragedy shines a light on an opportunity for the community safe place to live and play youth sports.”
