Golfweek
A metro Phoenix golf course was named the third-best residential golf course in the United States in Golf Week’s 2025 rankings.
Though Estancia, a Scottsdale golf course designed by Tom Fazio that opened in 1995, ranked high on the list, there was no shortage of Arizona golf spots highlighted in the national ranking.
While many states had just a few courses on the list, the Grand Canyon State had 24 residential courses and nine resort courses included in the national ranking.
Here’s what to know about the top residential and resort golf courses in Arizona and how Golfweek developed the rankings.

How Golfweek ranked the best golf courses
Golfweek explained how it comes up with its average ratings:
“After starting nearly three decades ago, Golfweek’s Best has expanded to rank courses with the input of more than 800 raters around the world. These golfers play the courses and rate each layout based on 10 provided criteria, with each offering its own 10-point scale. Raters then offer one overall rating of 1 to 10, which is not cumulative based on the 10 criteria. An average of those overall ratings is calculated to create an annual score for each layout, allowing Golfweek’s Best to rank courses.”
