A lot of things went wrong for Arizona this past season, some of which (like injuries) were out of its control. But having a boring, unproductive offense was completely avoidable, and Brent Brennan appears to have found his solution to fix that side of the ball.
John Brice of FootballScoop.com is reporting that the UA is set to hire Seth Doege as its next offensive coordinator. He will replace Dino Babers, who will not return in 2025.
Doege, 35, spent this season as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Marshall, which is 10-3 and won the Sun Belt Conference title. Thundering Herd head coach Charles Huff has since accepted the same role at Southern Mississippi, with North Carolina State defensive coordinator Tony Gibson replacing him.
Marshall averaged 31.8 points per game this season, 10 points better than Arizona, averaging 201.7 rushing yards per game to rank 20th in FBS. The Herd’s quarterbacks threw 27 touchdown passes against four interceptions, with only one pick in the past six games.
Doege is a former quarterback who played for Mike Leach at Texas Tech from 2008-12, throwing for more than 4,000 yards in his junior and senior years. After a short pro career he began coaching as a grad assistant at Bowling Green in 2015, later coaching receivers and special teams for the Falcons.
In 2019 he joined USC as an offensive quality control coach, later as tight ends coach, spending three seasons with the Trojans before serving as an analyst at Ole Miss in 2022 and tight ends coach at Purdue in 2023.
Doege’s 2024 salary at Marshall was $265,000, per USAToday. He figures to get a sizable raise as Babers was making $500,000 for his one year with the Wildcats.
Arizona is also looking for a new defensive coordinator and special teams coordinator. Danny Gonzales, who coached special teams and linebackers this season, could be elevated to DC.
