FOOTBALL

Division 1

Kimberly 35, Appleton North 16

KIMBERLY – Carter Howard took a kickoff return 88 yards for a touchdown and Braedon Ellefson had two rushing touchdowns and a strip sack on defense that led to another in leading the Papermakers past the Lightning in a player opener at Papermaker Stadium.

Kimberly (8-1) will host Neenah (8-2) in a second-round game next Friday.

Howard’s kick return followed a 7-yard touchdown pass from Appleton North’s Charlie Olson to Grant Hardy that gave the Lightning a brief 7-0 lead in the first quarter.

Ellefson had touchdown runs of 5 and 2 yards in the second quarter. His second score came after he recorded a strip sack and fumble recovery off Olson in the second.

Kegan Pleau and Brady Bell also had scoring runs for the Papermakers.

Kaukauna 45, Pulaski 13

KAUKAUNA – The Ghosts outscored the Red Raiders 45-7 over the final three quarters to advance to the second round of the playoffs.

Aiden Reardon and Kyle Kress proved to be an unstoppable tandem as the two rushed for 276 yards and five touchdowns for Kaukauna.

Bron Schaefer added 113 yards and a touchdown on 10 completions for the Ghosts.

Spencer Hakes led Pulaski with 112 yards rushing on 10 carries. The bulk of those yards came on a 64-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

Kaukauna will face Beaver Dam, which defeated Menasha, in a second-round playoff game.

Beaver Dam 35, Menasha 21

MENASHA – The Bluejays tied the game 7-7 in the first quarter, but gave up a kickoff return for a touchdown on the ensuing play and were never able to get even again.

Beaver Dam improves to 9-1 with the victory, while Menasha’s season ends with a 6-4 record.

Ruben Standiford caught a 52-yard touchdown pass from Logan Liegl in the first quarter as Menasha tied the game 7-7.

Beaver Dam regained the lead with a 78-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Parker Blank, who added a 4-yard touchdown run in the second quarter as the Golden Beavers led 21-7 at halftime.

Liegl scored on a 1-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to pull Menasha within 21-14, then after another Beaver Dam touchdown the Bluejays scored on a 40-yard touchdown pass from Liegl to Beau Thompson to make it 28-21 after three quarters.

The Golden Beavers scored early in the fourth quarter to go back up by 14 points.

Blank intercepted a pass with 6:47 remaining in the game to end Menasha’s final threat.

FREEDOM – Drew Kortz ran for two touchdowns and 70 yards and passed for 233 yards to lead the Irish to the win over the Panthers.

After St. Croix Central took a 7-0 lead on a 6-yard run by Brecken Ponath, Kortz evened the score in the first quarter with a 40-yard run.

Gage Strelka then gave Freedom a lead it would not relinquish when he returned a fumble 30 yards for a touchdown.

Quinn Brennenstuhl led Freedom in receiving with six catches for 92 yards.

Ponath led St. Croix Central with 79 yards rushing.

WINNECONNE – Brody Schaffer had three touchdown passes and ran for another in leading the Wolves past Kohler.

The Wolves (10-0) advance and will host Xavier in a second-round playoff game Friday.

Schaffer had a 2-yard touchdown run and touchdown throws of 13 and 15 yards to Ryan Quigley. He also had a 11-yard strike to Jack Quigley.

Jesse Michaud had a 12-yard interception return for Winneconne as the Wolves scored all 35 of their points in the first half.

Division 6

Coleman 63, Weyauwega-Fremont 29

COLEMAN – Micah Kuchta carried 14 times for 220 yards and five touchdowns as the top-seeded Cougars ran over the eighth-seeded Warhawks.

Coleman (10-0) advances to face fourth-seeded Abbotsford, a 42-28 winner over Nekoosa.

The Cougars rolled up 556 total yards, including 487 rushing.

Weyauwega-Fremont (5-5) had 455 yards of total offense, including 291 through the air.

Kameron Zielke led the Warhawks by completing 19 of 31 passes for 276 yards and two touchdowns. He also added 11 rushes for 119 yards and two scores.

KIMBERLY – The top-seeded Papermakers dominated the eighth-seeded Patriots 25-10, 25-11, 25-18 in a regional final matchup.

Pacing the Kimberly attack were Blake Zielinski with 22 assists and three aces, Michael Janssen with eight kills and two blocks, Nick Sroda with seven kills and two blocks, Alex Krause with five kills, Jack Hruzek with 10 digs and Peter Van Grinsven with four kills.

Kimberly, now 37-6 overall, will face fourth-seeded Neenah on Tuesday.

East finishes its season at 7-17.

Neenah 3, Kaukauna 1

NEENAH – The fourth-seeded Rockets advanced to Tuesday’s sectional semifinal with a 20-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-20 win over the fifth-seeded Ghosts.

Neenah wa led by Miles Weaver, who had 20 kills. Julian Kuehn was next with 13 kills, followed by Ben Donaldson and Sam Printz with 10 kills each. Cam Diekfuss had 47 assists for Neenah, while Levi Steckling had 21 digs.

Leading the way for Kaukauna were Maverick Kelderman with 17 kills and 12 digs, Brady Mayer with 12 kills and four blocks, Donovan Waters with 10 kills, two aces and 11 digs, Nolan Laflen with 19 assists, Sam Hussin with 19 assists, Brody Ritchie with 11 digs and Clayton Torrey with four blocks.

Neenah is now 20-13, while the Ghosts finish at 6-25.

CROSS-COUNTRY

Division 2

Waupaca Sectional

Waupaca’s Owen Lencki earned himself a spot at the WIAA state meet by winning the sectional with a time of 16:11.8, 3.4 seconds faster than runner-up Luke Eiden of Pacelli.

Campbellsport won the team title with 74 points, while Watertown Luther Prep was next with 94 to also advance to state.

The girls team title wen to Watertown Luther Prep with 65 points. Berlin was second with 74.

Erin Moore of Lourdes Academy won the girls title with a time of 18:28.3. Sienna Timm of Waupaca qualified for the state meet by finishing fourth with a time of 20:14.9. Winneconne’s Hannah Yetter also qualified in sixth place with a time of 20:30.8.
