Anthony Edwards is racking up quite the hefty bill in fines from the NBA.
His season total hit $285,000 after he was slapped with a $50,000 fine for “making obscene gestures toward a game official.”
A video posted to social media appeared to show Edwards giving the middle finger to somebody off-camera, twice, as he was near the Timberwolves bench during Saturday’s game against the Grizzlies.
At one point a team staff member seemed to grab his arm to get him to stop the gesture before patting him on the back as Edwards walked toward a seat on the bench.
The gesture came after he was assessed a technical foul while he was on the bench and celebrated a slam dunk by Rudy Gobert.
Edwards has been fined on five different occasions this season, all of which relate to some sort of behavioral issue, and had three of those fines come in December alone.
The use of profanity during a postgame interview after a game against the Warriors cost him $25,000 and then he was fined $75,000 several weeks later after using profanity while criticizing the officiating.
Edwards was docked another $100,000 for the use of profanity in an interview on Dec. 27.
“I gotta go get it, s–t,” Edwards said during a live interview on FanDuel Sports Network North after hitting a game-winning shot in a win over the Rockets. “Nickeil [Alexander-Walker] found me. He cut me off. I’m like, s–t, I’m going for the win. Like Gilbert Arenas said, ‘I don’t do overtime.’ So f–k it.”
In November, Edwards had been fined $35,000 for an obscene gesture on the court when he was once again caught flipping the bird during a game.
Edwards has appeared in 38 games this season while averaging 25.4 points per game and 4.2 assists per game.
