A Hong Kong branch of Pure Fitness has been sued and ordered to vacate its premises after it allegedly failed to pay rent and management fees of about HK$8.49 million (US$1.08 million), even as the gym claimed the suit had been dropped by its landlord.

SunStone KB (HKSAR) Limited sued Pure Fitness (LP) Limited in the High Court, accusing the fitness and yoga chain of breaching its tenancy agreement by not paying rents since May for its branch located in the first and second floor of Manulife Place in Kwun Tong.

Shortly after the writ was made available to the public on Monday, Pure Fitness said in a statement that the civil action had been withdrawn as the parties had resolved the issue.

“As part of our rental renegotiations, we have resolved the issue with our landlord and reached an agreement. The writ has been withdrawn,” it wrote, adding all its branches were operating as usual.

“We look forward to sustaining a positive relationship with our landlord moving forward.”
