Coco Gauff has once more been left frustrated in her search for further Grand Slam success, having exited the Australian Open at the quarter-final stage.
Gauff wished Paula Badosa luck after losing to the Spaniard in Melbourne, with the WTA number three having lost in straight sets.
Badosa needed one hour and 43 minutes to secure a 7-5, 6-4 win over Gauff at Rod Laver Arena, securing a semi-final match with Aryna Sabalenka.
The 20-year-old American meanwhile leaves Australia with the 2023 US Open as her only Grand Slam title to date.
Gauff had been impressing at the Australian Open, having previously dropped her only set against Belinda Bencic in the fourth round.
Straight set wins were secured against the likes of 30th seed Leylah Fernandez and 2020 Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin.
Another former Grand Slam champion in Andy Roddick has now shared his thoughts on Gauff’s latest major exit, saying on the Served with Andy Roddick podcast: “We were all looking at the Coco match thinking that Coco looked great.

“Badosa took her forehand to the middle of the court and owned Coco going to that forehand side. What I want to see from Coco is some version of defence on the forehand, high and deep to the backhand to reset. It seemed like it was all in the middle of the court.”
Also with just one set dropped, Badosa had also been shining in Melbourne, but the 11th seed was undoubtedly the underdog against Gauff.
And while the Spaniard was in inspired form at Rod Laver Arena as she continued her dream run, her opponent was nowhere near the levels she has produced in recent times.

Gauff went into the first Grand Slam of 2025 on the back of the WTA Finals trophy late last season, along with United Cup success at the start of this season.
But her double fault issue reared its head once more, an area that the American has seemingly struggled to contain.
She already has 23 for the season, which ranks her seventh on tour, with her 430 double faults in 2024 having been 60 ahead of Marta Kostyuk in second.
