Andy Murray sends message back to Novak Djokovic on social media after his post match speech in Brisbane

Andy Murray is currently enjoying some downtime ahead of his reunion with Novak Djokovic at the Australian Open.

Murray will coach Djokovic at the Australian Open, in what is the Scot’s first such venture since retirement in August.

Djokovic says it is ‘strange’ working with Murray, with the pair having been rivals on the court for several years.

The Serbian is currently preparing for the first Grand Slam of the season at the Brisbane International, where he has been playing both singles and doubles.

Djokovic is into the second round of the former, where he meets Gael Monfils, but fell at that stage alongside Nick Kyrgios.

And he had a message for his new coach after making a successful start in Brisbane, with Djokovic hoping Murray doesn’t get injured during his holiday.

Speaking after his first round victory over Rinky Hijikata, the Serbian said of the Scot: “He’s on a family skiing trip.

“Sending my love to all the Murray family. I hope he doesn’t get injured skiing before he comes to Melbourne.”

And in true Murray fashion, he has now send a humorous response, sharing a video of his ski trip on X with the message: “I’m taking on some huge slopes as you can see but no injuries just yet.”

What records are Novak Djokovic chasing at the Australian Open?

There is, of course, an unfortunate irony in Djokovic’s message, with the latter stages of Murray’s career having been heavily impacted by injury.

Many of his issues came after hip resurfacing surgery in 2019, with a back csyt among his unfortunate problems just before retiring.

But he bowed out a tennis legend, and now has the chance to immediately return to success alongside Djokovic.

Murray tried and failed to win the Australian Open time and again, with the three-time Grand Slam champion losing five finals in Melbourne.

Djokovic meanwhile has lifted the iconic trophy a record 10 times, beginning all the way back in 2008 with his win over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

He will now be chasing a record-extending 11th title and a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam, along with a 100th ATP Tour level title, if not achieved before then.
