Andu Murray has certainly put his fans through the ringer so far at this Olympics, with he and Dan Evans saving match points in both their wins so far.

Against Belgian duo Sander Gille and Joran Vliegen in the previous round, the Brits were taken to another match tie-break by last year’s French Open finalists and had to save two more match points before claiming a 6-3 6-7 (8) (11/9) victory and a place in the last eight.

Murray and Evans again bounced around the court with joy after the latter put away the decisive volley before the moment caught up with the Scot and he sat on his chair with head in hands.

“Obviously it’s unbelievably emotional,” said Murray. “You’re obviously unbelievably happy and then, I don’t know why it happens, it’s like happy tears. I was really emotional at the end of the match.

“Obviously extremely happy, excited that we managed to get through and another amazing finish so it takes a lot out of you that sort of stuff.

Well, well, well. That’s got to go down as a huge shock. No 1 seed and clay-court superstar Iga Swiatek, a four-time French Open champion at the age of just 23, has crashed out of the women’s singles at Roland Garros at the semi-final stage.

The Queen of Clay has been dethroned by Zheng Qinwen of China 6-2, 7-5 meaning the Pole will contest the bronze-medal match while face either Anna Karolina Schmiedlova or Donna Vekic for gold. Zheng saved break points when serving for the match at 6-5 in the second set but pulled through and dropped to the ground in celebration. A big upset!

Katie Boulter and Heather Watson may be trailing in their women’s doubles quarter-final but have their sights set on an Olympic medal – so they can wear the Great Britain podium tracksuits.

Boulter and Watson produced another very impressive performance to defeat Brazilian sixth seeds Beatriz Haddad Maia and Luisa Stefani 6-3 6-4 and reach the quarter-finals of the women’s doubles.

It was a carnival atmosphere on court six, one of Roland Garros’ smallest arenas, with Brazilian fans loudly supporting their players.

And Watson revealed their special motivation to do well in Paris, saying: “I’ve been dreaming since we got here. The GB podium outfit is so cute. So we’re like, ‘We’ve got to wear this’.”

Bad news for the Brits on Court Simonne-Mathieu as Katie Boulter and Heather Watson have just lost the first set to Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani 6-3 in their women’s doubles quarter-final.

Elsewhere, Karolina Muchova and Linda Noskova have taken the second set 6-4 Hsieh Su-Wei and Tsao Chia Yi, who won the first 6-1, to send that women’s doubles quarter-final into a match tiebreak. They’re the first match on Suzanne Lenglen, with Murray and Evans up fourth on that court.

Before we get to Murray and Evans later today, there’s another British pair in action as Katie Boulter and Heather Watson are in action in the women’s doubles quarter-finals, only one win away from a guaranteed medal match.

It won’t be easy for the Brits today though as Italian duo Jasmine Paolini (who reached the French Open final at Roland Garros a few months ago) and Sara Errani (a former French Open finalist herself) stand in their way.

That match has just started on Court Simonne-Mathieu and is on serve at 2-1 to the Italians in the early going.

The play is already underway at Roland Garros, so how are things looking? Two matches started at 11am BST and in the women’s singles, Iga Swiatek has shockingly LOST the first set against Zheng Qinwen of China in their quarter-final.

Four-time French Open winner Swiatek is the Queen of Clay but will have to battle back as she trails Zheng 6-2, 0-2, albeit with an early break in the second set.

On Court Suzanne Lenglen, where Andy Murray will play later, Hsieh and Tsao of Chinese Taipei are 6-1, 2-3 up on Muchova and Noskova of the Czech Republic in the women’s doubles quarter-finals.

Murray and Evans will play on Thursday 1 August at Roland Garros and they will once again play in the final match of the day on Court Suzanne-Lenglen.

With play starting at 11am BST and one women’s double match and two men’s singles matches scheduled first, Murray and Evans could expect to play at around 4pm BST, although it could be later depending on the previous matches.

After the yelling and the leaping, the hugging and the sheer disbelief, Andy Murray returned to his seat and acted as if he had found a moment of silence amid the bedlam. Head in his hands, he tried to process the previous minute where his career teetered on the brink and then came roaring back once more, before the tears began. He can’t believe this. Can we? Not a chance. His Olympics show with Dan Evans goes on and the last dance gets another turn. As thrilling as the last time, as fraught with tension, two more match points saved to extend a career by at least two more days.

Because why not? Murray is making up the rules now. When you’ve already saved five match points and seen the end once, you are playing with house money, even if it is potentially the final match of your career.

Murray and Evans summoned the spirit of what they found in that memorable escape in the opening round, first playing as if they had nothing to lose and everything to win, then digging themselves out of trouble again.
