Detroit Lions fans share personal stories of family, tradition
We asked Detroit Lions fans to share their stories. Many talked about family tradition, and how Lions fandom was passed down to them.
One of the more prominent faces in the Detroit sports fan online community announced Tuesday he’s leaving social media due to his ongoing battle with cancer.
Andy Isaac, known from his X (formerly Twitter) account @WorldofIsaac, said he’s chosen to enter hospice care. He’s been battling Hodgkin’s lymphoma since he was first diagnosed in 2006.
Isaac, with more than 89,000 followers, became a beloved figure as he cheered on the Detroit Lions, Tigers, Red Wings, and Pistons with his followers and cracked jokes at other teams’ expense, namely the Chicago Bears. He has been there posting through all the highs and lows of Detroit and Michigan State sports over the last 15 years and also an outspoken advocate for food and restaurants across metro Detroit through his #Faturday posts, which was him sharing the food he ate on Saturdays.
Isaac also brought joy through his weekly posts asking his followers to share something good that happened to them that week.
“I have composed so many messages on social media,” Isaac wrote. “For myself, for work, for entertainment, for food, for cancer, for Faturday, for sports, for the Lions and for the Pistons and for the Tigers and for MSU and so on and so on and so on.
“I don’t know when my first tweet or post was but I can tell you, sadly, this is probably one of my last.
“Having cancer since 2006 has finally taken its toll on me, it has stripped me of my quality of life.
“I have decided on hospice care.”
You can read Isaac’s full message below. He signed off by saying, “Be kind to each other. I love you all. Truly, I do.”
Messages of love and support came pouring from all corners of the internet. All four Detroit sports teams responded with messages of love and support, as did thousands of Detroit sports fans and other internet regulars who have followed him. People tried to share the same love Isaac brought to others through his posts.
