Andrea Vavassori sends a classy message to Carlos Alcaraz following their clash at the Rotterdam Open.
The Spaniard was too strong for the 29-year-old, who came through the qualifiers to reach the main draw in Rotterdam.
The pair produced an entertaining affair for the fans in attendance as Carlos Alcaraz showed off his wide variety of shots.
It took just 63 minutes for the top seed to wrap up the victory and reach the Rotterdam Open quarter-finals for the first time.
Andrea Vavassori tried to come to the net and impose himself on the match.
But more often than not Alcaraz picked him off with some impressive passing shots, including an excellent backhand down the line after an exquisite behind-the-back lob.
Alcaraz won 85 per cent of his first-serve points in a emphatic 6-2, 6-1 win to reach his fourth indoor quarter-final. Post-match Vavassori took to Instagram to share a series of photos from the match and send a nice message to Alcaraz.
“Always a great experience playing one of the best tennis players in the world in a stadium like this,” he wrote. “Too good Carlos Alcaraz and I really think you are an amazing person too.”
The 21-year-old entered the comments and responded: “Way to go Andrea! It is always a pleasure to share the court with you!”
Alcaraz needed three sets to beat Botic van de Zandschulp in his first match in Rotterdam.
His next match was far more straightforward, and he was pleased with how he was able to increase his level. “Today was much better,” said Alcaraz, who plays Pedro Martinez in the quarter-finals.
“Every time that I leave the court, I’m always thinking how I can be better. That’s what happened after the first round.
“I just tried to be focused on the things that I had to improve from the first round. Not making too many mistakes, not having too many ups and downs in the match.
“If I’m a break up, just keep going with the same intensity. That’s what I tried today, I think what I did was pretty good. After these types of matches, my confidence goes up.”
