ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – Anchorage law enforcement and public safety personnel shopped alongside children in need saturday as part of their annaul “Shop with a Hero” event.
The event took place at the Walmart on Debarr road Saturday morning. Officers of the Police department, as well as FBI, Alaska State Troopers and military personnel were present. Children were paired up with an officer and given the opportunity to choose gifts and toys that were donated by Walmart.
“I’m always thankful to be able to spend time with my own family as well as the community at events like this,” said APD Sgt. Darrell Evans. “It’s great when I can kind of unplug from normal law enforcement duties, so to speak, and connect with the community on a level like we do here today.”
There were also volunteers helping wrap gifts, and opportunities to take pictures with Santa.
