Amazon is looking to fill more than 1,000 new full-time jobs at its high-tech warehouses opening this spring in Stockton.
The giant home-delivery retailer said Thursday that the jobs will be at “inbound cross-docks,” which receive and prepare items before they are sent to Amazon fulfillment centers.
Unlike a traditional warehouse, a cross-dock facility doesn’t hold goods for long. They are quickly dispatched to the fulfillment centers, which prepare customer orders.
The new jobs will have a starting pay of $21.25 an hour and come with health, dental and vision coverage, 401(k) retirement savings benefits with a company match, up to 20 weeks of paid parental leave and pre-paid college tuition through an Amazon Career Choice program, the company said.
Amazon is taking applications for the jobs at its main hiring site. A dedicated “Stockton jobs” page was not showing any openings as of Friday, but the company said new positions will be opening over the next few weeks. Those interested should revisit the hiring site frequently to find them.
Amazon said the new jobs are part of its commitment to Stockton and San Joaquin County.
“Amazon’s investment not only creates new job opportunities for our residents, but reinforces Stockton’s position as a key logistics hub in California,” Ed Wanket, director of economic outreach and industry relations at San Joaquin Partnership, said in a statement.
“We’re thrilled to see Amazon’s continued commitment to our community and look forward to the positive impact these new facilities will have on our workforce and regional development,” Wanket added.
