Online retail giant Amazon has announced they will be hiring for 250,000 positions leading into the holiday shopping season.
The announcement is for full-time, part-time and seasonal jobs. Of those 250,000, 8,000 are coming to Pennsyvlania.
The Harrisburg area specifically will see 1,000 jobs.
“Seasonal Amazon jobs offer competitive pay, flexible schedules, and the opportunity to be part of the bustling retail industry during its busiest time of year,” reads the press release from Amazon. “Many of these seasonal roles also come with the potential to transition into regular, full-time employment after the holidays.”
The press release also states that members of Amazon’s front-line team will receive a $1.50 per hour wage increase starting this month, “which will bring their average base wage to more than $22 per hour.”
Seasonal employees with Amazon “earn at least $18 per hour,” and the press release estimates that roughly one-third of seasonal hires stay at least one year with the company.
