Amanda Anisimova explains how she feels about Madison Keys winning the Australian Open title
Amanda Anisimova won the biggest title of her career at the Qatar Open after beating Jelena Ostapenko in the final.
Anisimova matched a Serena Williams record after winning her first WTA 1000 title in Doha.
Following her title win, Anisimova was congratulated by Paula Badosa amongst others, as she breaks inside the WTA top 20 for the first time in her career.
It has been a strong start to the 2025 season for American women, with Madison Keys winning the Australian Open last month.
Amanda Anisimova says how she feels about Madison Keys winning the Australian Open
By Keys winning the Australian Open, she became the first American woman to do so since Sofia Kenin in 2020.
She did this the hard way by beating Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka in back-to-back matches to win her maiden major.
As a result of her maiden Grand Slam win alongside, Keys is at a career-high ranking and has made recent American tennis history on the WTA Tour alongside Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula.
When asked about whether Keys inspired her, Anisimova was full of praise for her compatriot.
“Yeah, I mean, I’m super happy for Madison,” Anisimova said in her final press conference at the Qatar Open. “As an American player, for her to win the Australian Open is super special, so I’m happy she took it home for the country.
“It was an incredible week for her. She played some amazing tennis. Yeah, I was just super happy for her.”

With the the big three of Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer either retired or in the latter stages of their career, fans are often looking for the next people to fill that void.
Having that in mind, there has been some suggestion that top three ranked players Sabalenka, Swiatek and Gauff could potentially form a new big three on the WTA Tour.
However, Anisimova appears not to think that is the case and spoke about the depth that the WTA currently has.
“Honestly, I think with the tour right now, everyone plays a very physical game,” explained the world number 18. “There’s a lot of different winners I think on the tour, so I think anyone can bring the level up and show their performances and their game.
“There’s so many good players out there right now, so I don’t think that tying it to only three players is fair.”
Anisimova has showcased the depth on tour almost immediately after winning the Qatar Open, losing her subsequent match against world number 53 McCartney Kessler in Dubai.
