BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – The Texas A&M women’s basketball team began practicing last week gearing up for their opener on November 4th against A&M Corpus Christi.
While the Aggies are only focused on one practice at a time, one big storyline this season will be the renewed Lone Star Showdown when A&M hosts Texas on February 2nd.
“We’ve got a long time before we get to that game and think about it, but it’s something that’s why you play at this level,” A&M head coach Joni Taylor said. “Not only because of the competition for who you’re going to play in your conference, but those rivalries are things you’re going to talk about for a long time. When I get with my teammates we talk about a lot of stuff, but at some point, we’re going to talk about Alabama vs Auburn. I think it’s just fun to be a part of any type of rivalry that means that much to so many people,” Taylor added.
So far, the Aggies and Longhorns have played in two sports in this renewed rivalry. Texas beat A&M in both volleyball and soccer.
Texas leads the Cotton Holdings’ Lone Star Showdown with 1.5 points. A running tally and schedule of the in-state rivalry can be found here.
