NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara is making an investment in New Orleans.
The All-Pro star is now a minority partner in Five O Fore Golf, which is slated to open soon at the old Times-Picayune site.
“Once he came in and saw the place, this view of the Super Dome and what its potential is, he wanted to be involved,” said Lee White, a marketing consultant for Five O Fore. “We’re very thankful. Obviously, he is an amazing ambassador for the City and the Saints.”
About 100 construction workers are finishing painting, stuccoing and running wiring. The property is being prepped for landscaping and developers hope to install the golf turf in the coming weeks. The three-story facility will have a total of 78 bays, multiple TVs and bars.
“It’s about bringing that entertainment dollar and value to customers. The nicer bars, the nicer dining experience, the big 40×60 TVs. Even if you don’t want to play golf, it’s a place to hang out,” said Cliff Grappe, a consultant on the project.
Getting to this point in construction was challenging. The project faced delays over the years. Developers cite the pandemic and thieves stealing $300,000 of steel beams from the site.
The $47-million project is expected to bring a big economic boost to the city.
“We’ll be hiring roughly 200-250 people,” Gappe said.
Kelly Schulz with New Orleans & Company said it’s important to add new attractions to keep the city’s tourism competitive.
“We want people to know that there is always a reason to come back, we are always growing, we are adding new attractions and new reasons to visit,” Schulz said. “At New Orleans and Company, we’re excited because it gives us another thing to market.”
